Tantric Balance: The Polarity Process

Most people have heard of Yin and Yang and have seen its black and white symbol that has become somewhat of a fashion statement among young people in the past few years. The basis of Yin and Yang is very similar to that of Tantra: the balance of energies to achieve peace and harmony. The Tantric Polarity Process is an exercise performed by Tantrikas, usually prior to sexual activity, to bring the body into a balanced state.

It is believed that the Polarity Process results in extreme relaxation, increased sensitivity to sexual activity and improved general health.

The process is appropriately centered around the fourth, or heart, Chakra, which is also considered the center of body energy in Tantra.

Each step of the process requires about five minutes. Like most Tantric activities, it should not be rushed and both partners, the giver and the receiver, must be completely relaxed throughout. The atmosphere should also be relaxed and warm to ensure comfort. Special attention must be paid to using the correct hand and position, right or left, for each step in order to achieve balanced energy. The right hand is considered the positively charged hand while the left hand is referred to as the negatively charged hand. It is also important to remember that the giver's purpose is to serve and support the receiver throughout the process.

As the process begins, the receiver lies nude on his or her back with legs unbent and spread shoulder-width apart. The receiver breaths slowly and deeply in order to fully relax.

The giver sits with legs crossed on the right side of the receiver, with knees facing and slightly touching the receiver. It is of extreme importance that the giver sits with his or her right hand within reach of the receiver's head and with the left hand within reach of the receiver's genitals. The giver should be totally comfortable and relaxed so as to not make any significant movements during the process.

Before going further, both partners must spend about five minutes breathing slowly and deeply, focusing on complete relaxation.

After both parties are relaxed, the giver rubs his or her hands together repeatedly, creating heat. The giver then shakes his or her hands in the air, away from the receiver's body, and flicks his or her fingers to release energy from them. The giver repeats this process several times to prepare the hands for contact with the receiver.

The process will begin with the fourth Chakra, or the heart Chakra, and will then move in sequence through the remaining six Chakras.

The giver gently places his or her left hand on the receiver's chest, between the nipples.

With the left hand continually resting on the receiver's chest, the giver gently places his or her right hand on the receiver's first Chakra, the space between the anus and the genitals, also known as the perineum.

With hands on the fourth and first Chakras, the giver breaths deeply along with the receiver, with both partners focusing on the balance of energy for approximately five minutes.

With his or her left hand still on the receiver's chest, the giver moves his right hand to the receiver's second Chakra, or the genitals. If the giver's partner is a woman, the hand should be in contact with her outer lips and clitoris. If the receiver is a man, the giver should place the entire hand gently over his penis and testicles. Both parties remain in this position for five minutes, with the giver occasionally moving the right hand slightly and gently to release energy.

The giver then moves his or her right hand to the receiver's third Chakra, or navel, while his or her left hand remains on the heart. This position should also be held for five minutes.

Now the giver focuses entirely on the receiver's heart Chakra, placing his or her right hand on top of the left hand, which is still on the receiver's chest. The hands should remain over the heart for five minutes.

At this time, the giver's right hand is moved onto the receiver's heart Chakra, taking the place of the left hand. The giver then places his or her right hand very gently on the receiver's fifth Chakra, or throat area. This position is held for five minutes.

With his or her right hand still on the receiver's chest, the giver moves his or her left hand to the receiver's sixth Chakra, or forehead. The hands again remain in place for five minutes.

The giver then continues to keep his or her right hand on the receiver's heart Chakra while the giver moves the left hand to the receiver's seventh Chakra, or the top of the head. Again, this position is held for five minutes.

At this point, the process comes to an end. The giver slowly and with extreme gentleness removes his or her hands from the receiver's body. The giver very carefully and quietly moves away from the receiver and stands up. He or she turns away from the receiver, shakes his or her hands and flicks the fingers, as at the beginning of the process.

It is at this time, when the body is in a balanced state, that further sexual activity can occur. Appropriate choices are the Yoni massage if the receiver is a woman or the Lingam massage if the receiver is a man.
